We would like to thank our partners over at DestinHotYoga.org for their overwhelming work to make this Dream a Reality.
30a area is packed with locals and travelers looking to experience fun things to do in Destin. We have spent years on Stand Up Paddle boards along with countless hours inside Yoga Studios the mirage of the two disciplines seemed inevitable. We found 10 great reasons why you should take your Yoga to the water and start Living The Dream!
1. It’s Different
Stand Up Paddle board Yoga is defiantly different then your studio Yoga class. We teach you how to paddle board first before we go into a regular work shop flow. The mobile studio can also change locations as needed which is nice because our regular’s get a fresh new perspective about local aquatics and nature. Once the ground work is done we can then safely go out into the water. Fact! most of our students have never paddle boarded before so don’t let that stop you. SUP Yoga is about your ability to stay present, if you lose focus you can fall in. Those falls encourage strength within to get back up on the board and continue on. At first its all about letting go and being patient with yourself and not have huge expectations on what a pose should be or look like. Within a few classes you will be trying new poses – the ones you would never try in studio because the worst thing to happen is you fall off your inflatable paddle board. Most of the time you will hop back up laughing and enjoying the moment. Progression is encouraged in the classes and our top level instructors are their to keep you safe.
2. Its Fun
Smile, SUP Yoga should always be fun and the Dream Team knows how to have a lot of Fun, after all this is the best Job in the world (according to LTD owner Sean Walters).
You will take your Yoga practice to the next level with the add sense of security the water below delivers. because its so Fun we encourage progression at your own pace and never feel pressured if your uncomfortable.
4. Stronger workout
Because the water and less stable you will feel it in your legs the next day. SUP Yoga requires those stabilizing muscles to wake up and goto work. You will activate all those little muscles in your ankles, feet and legs to work with those suddle movements from the water beneath you. It harder the narrower your board is. We encourage you start on our Starboard SUP Yaga 40 boards. Their extremely stable and quite hard to actually fall off from.
5. improved breathing
New to Yoga and or Paddleboarding, no worries… Destin SUP yoga is geared toward all levels. We use yoga foundations and principles to learn to get comfortable, calm and grounded on the board. What better way than yoga! We learn to go with the flow without fear or ego, it all takes practice. Students laugh when the teachers falls in, part of the fun. Classes will begin with a paddle lesson

6. See the water through your board
We brought in some 2015 Starboard Dasham Boards for the intermediate yogi’s. This unique board has a built in window through the board that allows you to see the water and ground below. Certain days you can even catch a Doliphin or Sea Turtle swimming under you.
7. Its about a connection with nature and less about Yoga
One reason why we offer a “Sunrise” class is to focus more on metation and breathing techniques to release stress within. Its peacefull, quite, and humbleing knowing your truly one with nature as you lay flat on your back just touching the backs of your hands in the water as you watch the Sun come up. What better way to start your day!
8. Tone your Core
Expect to engage your CORE! Your abdominals are essential to proper paddling and avoiding any discomfort in your lower back. By engaging the muscular energy in your core, you’ll not only tone your muscles but will find a deeper sense of strength inside you. You’ll work your legs, your feet and your arms. Your feet are your central connection to your board, so think about Tadasana “mountain pose” where your feet are your roots. You engage your legs for even more stability, so make sure to put a slight bend in the knees, and avoid stiffening up the lower half of your body. Be relaxed. The act of paddling comes from the core but you use your arms to create moment with every paddle stroke.
9. Letting go of Fear
We heard this a lot before we started our Water Yoga Classes. Never occurred that doing some water yoga would help people overcome fears in life.
Expect to fall in! Why? Because we have the opportunity to play, and with playfulness comes the ability to let go of our fears and try something daring. The great part about falling in the water is it’s refreshing and makes you feel alive.
You truly connect with yourself and nature in moments where you’re able to let go of anything outside of that moment. SUP yoga uses all of the aspects of traditional yoga on the mat, but by adding the dynamic of being on water in a natural setting, you see for yourself how we’re all connected. So enjoy, feel alive, feel refreshed and get on a board this summer! You won’t be disappointed you tried it!
